About Jhirna
Jhirna is located on the southern periphery of Corbett Tiger Reserve.
The animal population also comprises sloth bear and wild elephants which provide
great sights for the wild life enthusiasts. Jhirna zone is open throughout the year.
The Jhirna jeep safari zone is one of the most eye-catching spots inside the Corbett
Tiger Reserve.
Day visit to Jhirna Zone is through Dhela Gate which is 20 Kms from Ramnagar. Its
main topography mainly constitutes deciduous and secondary forest interspersed with
plush open grasslands that offer amazingly good visibility of wild animals.

Chaurs (Grass Lands)
Around Jhirna we have a large chaurs (Grass land) known as the Laldhang Chaur. This
is the favored area by the wild herbivores like elephants and deers.
How to Reach Jhirna?
Jhirna gate is around 20 kms from Ramnagar city, Jhirna safari opens round the year
for day safaris.
The booking for day visits can be done using the official web portal. During monsoon
advance booking of safaris cannot be done for Jhirna gate because in case of heavy
rains safaris can be cancelled any particular day, hence permits for the safaris
are given on current basis.

The Jhirna Tourism Zone, however remains open for day safaris throughout the year,
subject to road and weather conditions.
The terrain consists of large open grasslands, popularly known as Chaur. Its topography
is mainly dry deciduous type with secondary forest. There are numerous natural streams
inside the area. The stream beds are warm and accessible for exploring. There are
cliff edges along with the streams, which can prove to be a good spot for bird watching.
One of the best places to spot tigers in their natural habitat, this is a must visit
zone for the wildlife enthusiasts.

Situated at the southern edge of the Corbett Reserve Park, the Jhirna tourism zone
offers some exclusive tiger and sloth bear sighting along with the spectacular view
of the landscape which is pretty rich in wildlife. The topography of the Jhirna
zone primarily is a dry deciduous type and consists of a large Grassland (Chaur)
known as the Laldhang Chaur. This big Chaur is the favorite place for the herbivores
of the zone like deer, chitals, nilgai and elephants. Numerous water streams in
this zone nourish the wildlife of this zone and adding the natural ambiance of the
zone.
Jhirna FRH is located on the southern boundary of the Corbett Tiger Reserve and
may be approached from the Dhela entry gate. Vegetation here is drier and mostly
shrub. It was a farming land till the villages (Dhara, Jhirna and Kothirau) were
relocated in 1994 under Project Tiger. The area has recovered really well and is
a testimony of the rejuvenating power of nature. After the successful ecological
recovery, the area is a favored ground of Wild animals now

Dhela FRH has a sprawling campus. It is located in the buffer area of Corbett Tiger
Reserve that was added to it in 1991. The village of Dhela close to the FRH lends

Ramnagar Town

India. Ramnagar is located approximately 65 Kms (40 miles) from Nainital, the headquarters
of the district. Ramnagar is the Gateway to the Corbett Tiger Reserve, the oldest
National park.

Flora & Fauna
Trees like the Sheesam (Dalbergia sissoo), the Kanju (Holoptelea integrifolia),
the ber (Zizyphus mauritians), dhak (Butea monosperma), and bael (Aegle
Marmelos).
A large number of tiger are said to be found here. Other mammals inhabiting Corbett
Tiger Reserve includes deer species (Barking Deer, Sambar, Hog and Chital), Sloth
and Himalayan Black bears.

Jhirna FRH
Jhirna FRH is located on the southern boundary of the Corbett Tiger Reserve and
may be approached from the Kalagarh entry gate. Vegetation here is drier and mostly
shrub. It was farming area till the villages near the FRH was relocated in 1994
under Project Tiger. Here the CTR comes in direct contact with cultivation and habitation
and to avoid man animal conflict a cement wall was build in 1990. The enclaved villages
of Dhara, Jhirna and Kothi rau were located from here in 1994 after a long drewn
process and later in 2002 Laldhang village was relocated. The area has had vast
ecological recovery since the rehabilitation of the villages.
Flora & Fauna
A watch tower and machaan overlooking the Kothi rau sot offer enchanting experiences
and is ideal for bird watching. Tiger, leopard, elephant and blue bull sighting
is common. Located nearby are dense bamboo patches ideal habitat for tiger, leopard,
sloth bear and wild boar.
